PANDORA History
In 1982 in the modest surroundings of Copenhagen, Denmark, a goldsmith, Per Enevoldsen, and his
wife, Winnie, opened their first jewelry shop, which would later become PANDORA. They traveled
abroad to Thailand in search of unique jewelry to import. In 1987 when demands increased for such,
their focus shifted to wholesale business.
They opened a factory in Thailand to
control the manufacture process, treatment of their employees and pay tribute to their muse.
In 1987, they also hired jewelry designer Lone Frandsen to create their unique lines. In 1996,
Lisbeth Larsen, goldsmith and designer, became a part of the company. Working together, they defined
the style of PANDORA’s jewelry lines. "The inspiration behind our MOMENTS, STORIES and COMPOSE
collections comes from our daily life, from clothes, fashion, nature, architecture, especially shapes
and styles of both modern and classic Danish furniture design," said Larsen and Frandsen.
PANDORA Moments Collection: The Charm Bracelet
The women set out to create a line that would embrace all things relevant to any woman’s life,
from the birth of her child to her incredible love story. They sought to give women the opportunity
to express their individuality and sustain their female essence. Thus in 2000 MOMENTS were created;
a bourgeoisie twist to the traditional charm bracelet.
With over 600 charms to choose from, their idea was realized. Each bead is
handcrafted, with at least 30 hands touching a bead before it is released, and set in sterling silver
or 14 K gold, often embellished with precious stones, like topaz, sapphires, or brilliant-cut diamonds,
and set in hardened enamel. Its murano beads are made of hand-blown glass.
Beads are set in bracelets, which are sterling silver, 14kt gold, or sterling silver with a 14kt gold
clasp. The bracelet has a unique patented threading system, which has not been duplicated
(U.S. Pat No. 7,007,507). The bracelet is divided in three sections by small threads. Each bead is
equipped with an interior threading system, so that it may be placed within any section. Clips, with
detailed motifs, can be placed on the small threads to lock the beads within the section and distribute
the weight of the charms.
PANDORA'S Stories Collection
Like any story, STORIES are made up of different types of jewelry: earrings, rings, necklaces and pendants,
which when pieced together, bring together these details to tell a complete tale of metal mastery. Each set
can be paired with any charm from the MOMENTS collections.
PANDORA'S Compose Collection: Posts and Earring Charms
COMPOSE consists of hooks and earring pendants, such as dangling pearls and gems, hoops or elaborate hoops
accented with flowers or gems. Hooks are linked with earring pendants to compose beautiful compliments to
any wardrobe. Like STORIES, these too can be paired with charms and other pieces from the PANDORA line.
PANDORA'S Liquid Silver Collection: Sterling Silver Jewelry Line
Mark Trolle and Lee Anthony Gray created the LIQUID SILVER Collection. Set in sterling silver, as its name
implies, the jewelry collection is inspired by the fluid motion of water, apparent in its vicarious smooth
textures, which insinuate the tranquil and poetic truce of the waves of water.
PANDORA'S LovePods Collection: 18kt Gold Jewelry Line
Also designed by Trolle and Gray, LOVEPODS tell a beautiful story in 18kt yellow gold, rose gold, and white
gold, with precious stones or diamonds.
A pod is a singular piece, the beginning;
it comes from nothing, then slowly blossoms into a flower. It is much like love, which too awakens from
nothing: a simple interaction, smile, gaze or touch, then blossoms into something beautiful and life-changing.
Thus what began as a two-man operation in a modest town in Copenhagen, Denmark 29 years ago, now
spans across six continents and employs over 4,500 employees. PANDORA has become one of the most globally
recognizable jewelry lines. Their collections of affordable jewelry for all price budgets range from $25 in sterling
silver to over $1,000 in gold, and are updated twice a year: spring and fall.
PANDORA has truly become the standard in customizable jewelry.
